STEP 1: PREPARING FOR SETTINGS
Adjusting an air rifle requires some preparation work beforehand. The first step is to find a place outside to shoot the rifle . It must be spacious enough to vary the shooting distances. To ensure that your session takes place in optimal conditions, choose a safe location. As a reminder, all corners of your hallway must be secure. Ideally, it should point towards a wall or an embankment so as to stop a projectile. The objective being to avoid any shooting incident.
Once the ideal location has been found we can move on to the second stage of the preparations, namely setting up the target. Before switching to a standard target, choose a large target at the start of your adjustments. The C50 model which measures 51×52 cm appears to be the most appropriate shooting target for adjusting a pellet rifle. Indeed, if the first shots are too far from the center of the target, it will be easier to identify the impacts. For best results, the target should be placed at approximately shoulder height.
To make it easier to adjust the rifle, opt for a shooting easel or a shooting bag. It makes it possible to immobilize the rifle and avoid any vibrations affecting the precision of the shot. This way you will keep uniform shots throughout the process. You are finally ready to start the second step!
STEP 2: ADJUSTING THE CARBINE
Whether you are adjusting a rifle scope or using open sight, the methodology will be the same. To adjust the open aim, position yourself about ten meters from the target and put yourself in a shooting position. Place the cheek on the cheekpiece so as to align the rear sight with the front sight on the center of the target. Hold your breath in half-exhalation.
Place your finger on the trigger and lightly press it until you find the hard spot. Secondly, continue to press the trigger until the shot starts. Always keep your line of sight on the center of the target. Maintain aim for a few moments after the shot is fired. Repeat the operation three to four times.
On the target, you should have several grouped hits. Theoretically the targeted point must be the touched point. If this is not the case, it does not matter, note the position of the impacts to readjust the sights.
2.1 AIMING
When shooting, the front sight must be perfectly centered in relation to the height. To do this, use your dominant eye. Then align your line of sight below the black center of the target so as to leave a white margin. When taking aim, focus your vision on the front sight. Your eyesight will instinctively focus on this sight. The front sight will appear sharp while the target and rear sight will be blurry.
This behavior of the human eye is natural. It’s called accommodation. In fact, the human eye cannot see clearly near and far at the same time. Accommodation results from a voluntary action of the eye which allows us to see clearly in a specific location.
2.2 HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT
Are the impacts of your shots too high, compared to the center of the target? In this case, raise the increase by a few clicks using the wheel (1) on the weapon to adjust your shots. Perform this operation until your shots find the “bull’s eye” of the target. In case your shots are too low the operation is the same! Just lower the rise to get a higher impact.
2.3 DRIFT ADJUSTMENT
In cases where the impacts are too far to the left or right, you need to adjust the gun’s rear sight for windage. Let’s take the example of impacts located too far to the left on the target. Bring the raise to the right a few clicks using the wheel (2), until you obtain the desired result.
