List of Zoo Animals is home to a huge diversity of wildlife, much of it very rare and only to be found in the subcontinent, making it the perfect place for a wildlife enthusiast to visit. However it is a vast country encompassing all imaginable landscapes and climatic conditions giving rise to a huge variety of habitats and ecosystems which support so many different species that it can be difficult to know where to go and what to see.
Where to see Indian wildlife
There are more than 500 National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries in India – you can see the last few remaining Asiatic lions, catch a glimpse of a snow leopard, watch herds of Indian elephants roaming in the grasslands, spot the one-horned rhino or even see a red panda as well as so much more – and as for birding in India, it is a complete paradise for birdwatchers. Of coursed India is famous for its national animal, the Bengal tiger, but sadly, despite the best efforts of the Indian Government, this beautiful animal is now close to extinction in the wild – shockingly there are probably as few as 800 remaining. Seeing tigers in the wild is a truly fantastic experience and there are Tiger Reserves all over the country – you can go on safari in the snow clad foothills of the Himalayas in the north, in the mangrove forests of Sundarbans in the East, amidst the splendour or Rajasthan in Ranthambore, or in the tropical forests of Tamilnadu in the south. As the tiger is at the top of the food chain, wherever they are to be found there will also be a mind blowing amount of other wildlife to see – the tiger’s chief prey of antelope and deer; other members of the cat family including leopard; wild boar; langur and a vast and colourful array of bird life. What you will see will obviously depend on the area visited, but a wildlife safari in India is always exciting and never disappointing.
